Margaret Clap ran a coffee shop in Field Street, Holborn in the 1720s. It was known as a "Molly House", a place where men could meet each other openly.


She was loyal to her customers, even committing perjury to protect one of her friends, and performing marriage ceremonies between them, though of course these were not legally recognised.
