Section 28

Section 28 was a piece of legislation which stopped public officials ‘promoting’ same sex relationships as normal. Teachers were particularly affected, and many felt angry that they were prohibited from telling young people that they could live happy fulfilling lives.
In protest, some LGBTQ+ activists used teddy bears wearing queer slogans to remind the world that young queer people deserve equal access to hope, family and love. The law was repealed in England and Wales in 2003.
